Guest Writer: Karen Tyrrell: From MADNESS to Published Author

‘Once I was completely MAD, screaming out with jaw-clenching night terrors and black manic dreams. Parents at my school had harassed and abused me, a teacher, until I could take no more.

Karen Tyrrell: From Madness to Published Author

‘I escaped and ran. Police discovered me in a lonely motel, incarcerating me into the terrifying psychiatric system.
My creative writing journey began – In the dark halls of the psych hospital;

‘I scribbled down my tell-all memoir, Me and Her: A Memoir of Madness in two personas.
ME ─ wife, mother, writer and teacher.
HER ─ manic, psychic, healer to the living, telepathic to the dead, and she’s very psychotic.

In 2010, I ‘came out’ about my mental illness and recovery on my website, Karen’s BLOG sharing pro-active mental health and writing tips. In 2011, I won a mentorship with the Society of Editors QLD to further develop Me and Her.

In 2012, I published, Me and Her: A Memoir Of Madness winning finalist in the Mental Health achievement awards.
In 2013, I published the sequel, Me and Him: A Guide to Recovery a self-help mental health manual, winning 5 STAR reviews from mental health CEOs …
I’m extremely passionate about my dual passions of writing and mental health …
